News - 23 May 2020

Seda Gürses talked about digital contact tracing apps and AI to the RadicalAI podcast. Seda has been active in the project Decentralized Privacy Preserving Proximity Tracing (DP3T), a project that aspires to contribute to public debate and actions on whether augmenting manual contact tracing with digital proximity tracing is desirable and can be done in a privacy preserving way. In the podcast, Seda talks about concerns around surveillance being proposed as the only alternative to lockdowns, ways in which privacy engineering can address privacy rights but not all fundamental rights, as well as the way in which Google and Apple present infrastructural power that can come to constrain the exercise of democratic processes.
