Coronavirus Update: Ticket Hours, Sports and Dance Courses Start Resuming as of Today

News - 20 October 2020 - Communication

With the great variety of activities on offer at X, we have to deal with many different rules. As well as those imposed by the Dutch government, the regional security authority and TU Delft, these include protocols issued by numerous sector organisations. All this makes it very complex to arrive at an approach that is as clear and unambiguous as possible.

When the tighter coronavirus measures were introduced as of 14 October, X decided to implement only those rules which were sufficiently clear. Where that was not the case, we temporarily suspended the activities concerned (see update of 15 October). This was done so that we could continue to organise as many activities as possible safely and responsibly, but without later having to reverse decisions taken too quickly. In our approach to the restrictions, we want to be neither overcautious nor try to probe their limits.

Now, we have good news: the rules are clear and as of today, Tuesday 20 October, most of the ticket hours and sports and dance courses can resume:

  • Those ticket hours in which you can participate individually – that is, you are not reliant on other people. These lessons can take place in their current form, subject to the national rules: no more than 30 people in a room and all at least 1.5 metres apart. They include Spinning, LBT and Yoga. Registration for these hours opens at 13:00.
  • Those sports courses in which you participate individually, for example tennis, golf and squash.
  • In the cultural sector, an exemption has been granted nationally to allow the 1.5-metre social distancing rule to be ignored when necessary. This means that all dance courses, including partner dances such as Lindy Hop, Argentinian Tango and Ballroom, can resume from today.

Activities in groups of max 4 people
For all outdoor activities and indoor group activities*, groups of up to four people are permitted. These groups must be identifiable and their members must keep at least 1.5 metres apart and not mix with other groups. The practical implications of this rule are to be worked out this week in co-operation with the associations and tutors concerned. This means that these activities, including the sports associations’ training sessions, are expected to resume during the course of next week. For the latest information, keep an eye on the website.

Finally, activities held at locations other than X, such as swimming and squash, are subject to the rules of the venue in question.

If you don't understand a decision, don't hesitate to ask us for an explanation. You can ask your question via the hosts. Your feedback helps us to make possible improvements.

*By group activities, we mean those in which you are reliant on each other or someone else.
