X offer in 2020/2021

News - 20 August 2020 - Communication

In late July, X was granted permission to welcome a certain number of visitors every day from Monday 31 August 2020 onwards, in line with the maximum permitted capacity on campus. The permitted capacity is the same as before the coronavirus outbreak, which means that from this date, the standard X opening hours will return, and we will be able to offer an almost complete programme.

It goes without saying that once the programme returns on 31 August, we must comply with all specific coronavirus measures in force at the time. The number and range of activities will therefore return to normal, but restrictions will be in place for the time being, such as a maximum number of participants per activity, adjusted timetables and obligatory booking.

In concrete terms, this means:

Associations offer
The associations offer will begin on 31 August. If you would like to participate, you will need to purchase a 12-month X subscription. You can purchase your subscription during September.

Ticket hours
The ticket hours will start again on 14 September. All ticket hours will be offered, with a limited number of participants per ticket hour. For some of the ticket hours, a 15-minute buffer will be built-in, in order to restore air quality and avoid crowding as people move around the building. There will not be any ticket hours activities in the period 31 August to 14 September.

Free usage
The X free-usage facilities will remain accessible for subscribers, although they do need to be booked online in advance.

Fitness
The gym (Fitness) is already open to a limited number of participants, and online booking in advance is required.

Courses
The first block of the courses on offer for the 2020-2021 season will start on 12 October. By reintroducing courses as soon as possible, we want to bring balance to the programme of activities. With a regular course duration of 7 lessons and scope for coordination with the degree and exam timetable, this first block will run until mid-December. A second and third block of courses will subsequently be planned for January and April 2021. Registration for these courses opens on 5 October.

Online programme
Where possible and worthwhile, we have added online activities to the existing programme, e.g. for ticket hours for which the demand exceeds available capacity in light of the coronavirus measures, and which are well suited to an online version.

Adjusted prices for the 2020-2021 season
The regular student prices at X cover the direct costs. These include costs linked to instructors, materials and equipment. However, this is only a small part of the total costs. The other costs (for the building, staff, etc.) are covered by TU Delft and income generated by X itself (proceeds from hospitality, room hire).

In light of the fact that we can now offer a full programme (in terms of number and range of courses), but are as yet unable to accommodate as many participants as usual due to the coronavirus restrictions, we have adjusted our prices for the coming season. After the coronavirus crisis, the prices for the 2021-2022 season will return to normal.

Price of an X subscription
In the 2019-2020 season, a 12-month student X subscription cost 130 euros. This price is annually indexed for inflation and to cover the cost of expanding the programme of activities. In a normal situation, the price for the 2020-2021 season would therefore have been approximately 140 euros.

However, due to the aforementioned coronavirus restrictions, a 12-month student X subscription for the coming season will cost 119 euros. The prices for shorter subscriptions and staff subscriptions are based on the 12-month price. X subscriptions will go on sale on 31 August.

Price of the Fitness supplement
In the 2019-2020 season, a 12-month student Fitness supplement cost 122.50 euros. In a normal situation, the price for the 2020-2021 season would have been approximately 135 euros. However, due to the aforementioned coronavirus restrictions, a 12-month student Fitness supplement for the coming season will cost 113 euros. The prices for shorter Fitness supplements and staff Fitness supplements are based on the 12-month price. Fitness supplements will go on sale on 31 August.

Course prices
Prices vary per course, based on the number of participants, the content and type of course. Although each course will only be able to accommodate a lower (maximum) number of participants, the price of most courses will only increase in line with inflation. This will not apply to courses for which the minimum number of participants is also lower. The complete range of courses will be published on our website from 5 October, and participants will also be able to register from this date. The new course prices will also be published online.

For a complete overview of the prices, see: X Subscription.

Refund for the 2019-2020 season
A decision has now been taken regarding refunds for subscriptions, supplements and course fees paid for the period in the 2019-2020 season during which X was fully closed due to the coronavirus measures. Those affected will be (personally) contacted next week.
