IAWA-scholarship 2022 for Gaia Roncalli

News - 06 September 2022

Each year The International Aviation Women's Association (IAWA) awards a scholarship to a female student at the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering. This year, the scholarship of 5,000 USD goes to Master's student Gaia Roncalli.

Gaia Roncalli is currently doing her MSc Aerospace Engineering within the track ‘Space Flight’ while specializing in technology entrepreneurship. In 2021 she co-founded the start-up Ecosmic to tackle the issue of space debris and has been an advocate for space sustainability since then. In the near future, she wants to continue her journey as an entrepreneur in the NewSpace sector while being a mentor for new aerospace students.

Christine De Gagné, IAWA Scholarship Chair: "Gaia's commitment to both her studies and her entrepreneurship has truly inspired us and shown us that she has a real connection to IAWA's call to connect, inspire and lead. All of that, along with her passion for aviation, makes us proud that she will soon be joining our industry. On behalf of all our members, we welcome her to the IAWA family of scholarship recipients! She has a great future ahead of her and we are happy to support her academic career."
