Amir Zadpoor appointed Antoni van Leeuwenhoek professor

On 10 October 2017 TU Delft’s executive board has decided to appoint Amir Zadpoor Antoni van Leeuwenhoek professor. Amir Zadpoor is chair of biomaterials & tissue biomechanics at the Department of BioMechanical Engineering.

The official kick-off of the Medical Delta Living Lab ResearchOT took place on 14 September in the Reinier de Graaf Hospital. Professor Jenny Dankelman, associate professor John van den Dobbelsteen and PhD candidate Frederique Meeuwsen (BME) are conducting research in this Living Lab ResearchOT.

Vahid Arbabi won runner-up prize Best Doctoral Thesis Award

Vahid Arbabi, postdoctoral researcher at the department of BioMechanical Engineering, was awarded the runner-up prize for the Best Doctoral Thesis Award in Biomechanics by the European Society of Biomechanics (ESB). It is the first time that this prestigious international prize is awarded to the department of BioMechanical Engineering of 3mE. Vahid performed his research under supervision of professor Harrie Weinans and associate professor Amir Zadpoor.

Intelligent robot assistance helps rehabilitating patients to walk

Heike Vallery, researcher at the BioMechanical Engineering Department, has been working with Dutch and Swiss scientists and doctors on an experimental robot training environment to help patients rehabilitating from spinal injuries or a cerebral haemorrhage. This summer they published their findings in Science Translational Medicine.

KNWU, KOGA and TU Delft to develop optimal track bike for the Tokyo Olympics

The Royal Dutch Cycling Federation (Koninklijke Nederlandsche Wielrenunie, KNWU), bike manufacturer KOGA and TU Delft are joining forces to develop a revolutionary track bike. The new lightweight, aerodynamic bike will take account of differences between individual cyclists.

Another taste of success for 3mE’s Haptics Lab

The Haptics Lab of the Department of BioMechanical Engineering (BME) has achieved renewed success in partnership with graduate student Lotte Leufkens. The Haptics Lab, which is run by associate professor David Abbink, works closely with national and international companies and the Robotics Institute to optimise human-machine cooperation in the context of pervasive computerisation throughout the world.
