Dr. ir. Aimee Sakes

I am Aimée Sakes and I am currently an assistant professor at the department of BioMechanical engineering at the TUDelft. My work focusses on the development innovative mechanical devices for various application areas such as medicine, aerospace, and bulk operations. For my work, I get inspiration by intriguing mechanisms in nature, such as the chameleon tongue and fast appendage strike of the mantis shrimp. My passion is finding ways to translate biological systems into innovative mechanical devices.

My current focus is on soft robots, where I take inspiration from cuttlefish and octopi, for the development of soft mechanisms that can interact with tissues, grow, and move!&nb
