Trend analysis of company performance: with environmental concerns for motor vehicle manufacturers

Problem Domain: Operation and production management

There is more to a healthy motor vehicle manufacturer than the financial statistics. However, current efforts in the field of performance measurement and management haven’t provided sufficient quantitative trend analysis with environmental concerns for motor vehicle manufacturers.

Goals/Objectives

This research aims to quantitatively analyze the trend of company performance with environmental concerns for motor vehicle manufacturers. This research can form the basis for a statistical tool which can assist users to better understand the consequence of their decisions in the complex business management.

Approach
This research designed an integrated approach to quantitative trend analysis for motor vehicles manufacturers. This approach consists of six phases. 1) In phase І, a conceptual framework of company performance for motor vehicle manufacturers is developed. 2) During phase II to phase IV, a company performance index for motor vehicle manufacturers (IMVM) is constructed. 3) In phase V i), the IMVM trend is analyzed based on autoregressive models. Different autoregressive models can be developed for different companies. 4) In phase V ii), the IMVM trend is analyzed based on the adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS). 5) In phase VI, the results from the two methods are compared. The method with less errors can be identified. Use the identified method to calculate the IMVM value in FY2018 and FY2019.

Results (or expected results)
The integrated approach for constructing an index IMVM and for its trend analysis is new and transparent.
It is derived based on identifying seven fundamental assumptions from motor vehicle manufacturers. The value generated by this index can benefit users to analyse company performance with environmental concerns more accurately.
