Online Alumni Lectures

For and by alumni

In January 2021 we started organizing “online alumni lectures”; lectures given by alumni, for alumni. Alumni share technological challenges and breakthroughs on various topics with TU Delft graduates.

Transforming aviation to serve a climate neutral society

Is a ‘net zero’ or climate-neutral (European) aviation system by 2050 feasible, or a utopia? On Tuesday 12 October, Ron van Manen, TU Delft Aerospace Engineering alumnus and head of Strategic Development at the Clean Sky Joint Undertaking will share his perspective on the progress made and future steps needed.

Reinventing meat using technology

The series kicked off on January 19 with a lecture by alumna Dr Ir Nadine Bongaerts, who took our alumni into the world of cultured meat. As a researcher at the French start-up Gourmey, she shared the technical and political challenges of transforming foie gras from the most controversial French delicacy to a sustainable culinary masterpiece.

The Einstein Telescope

The series continued on April 15, with alumnus Dr Ir Joris van Heijningen gave a lecture on the Einstein Telescope, Europe's next major research project. Instrumental researcher Joris is involved in this billion-dollar plan and shared the technological challenges of this gravitational wave detector.
