Masterclass "Energy transition for city and building"

By Siebe Broersma, researcher and lecturer and Ir. Tess Blom, researcher, both at the chair of Climate Design & Sustainability of the faculty of Architecture & the Built Environment.

Our current energy system is based on fossil fuel and should change into a more sustainable energy system without CO2 emissions. This energy transition can be regarded as a considerable task for the built environment. How cities and buildings should change to contribute to this task is an important part of the theme of the chair Climate Design & Sustainability at the faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment where Siebe Broersma and Tess Blom are researchers.

Chair holder Andy van den Dobbelsteen was interviewed in Delft Outlook how this is done in the energy transition roadmap from Amsterdam and how this should be done in general. That roadmap is delivered lately with help of Siebe and Tess. Within the curriculum at the faculty sustainability is emphasized when it concerns buildings. Not only new buildings, but in particular existing ones, which is where the biggest challenge lies. With the newest MOOC ‘Zero Energy Design’ the chair contributes to lifelong learning and to online education for everyone. In this course we explain step by step how you can develop your own zero energy concept for a building.

During the masterclass ‘Energy transition for city and building’ Tess and Siebe will explain how you can make plans to live energy-neutral and free of natural gas, how this is done in the city of Amsterdam and if this is possible at your own home.
