Health College: Algorithms against Alzheimer’s

By prof. dr. Marcel Reinders, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science and dr. Henne Holstege, Alzheimercentrum Amsterdam, Amsterdam UMC.

As our life expectancy rises, an increasing number of people are developing Alzheimer’s disease. Reason enough to focus on research aimed at understanding Alzheimer’s. In this Health College, organised by Delft University Fund, Marcel Reinders and Henne Holstege will explain how TU Delft and the Alzheimercentrum Amsterdam work together to unravel Alzheimer's disease. The Alzheimercentrum collects data from the brains of elderly people without dementia and compares this with those from patients who do develop dementia. Thereafter, bioinformatics scientists at TU Delft develop algorithms to investigate if there are indications that can explain the healthy minds of those over a hundred years old. A very challenging task!
