Supporting apps

Besides the programmes supported by the health insurance provider, there are also stop-smoking apps to choose from. You can download these apps via Google Play Store or the App Store. A great many apps are available, but we recommend the following five apps as they are research-based.

Stopstone

This app is mainly directed at young smokers who wish to stop smoking.

  • The app calculates how much money you save if you do not smoke.
  • The participant can program in a reward (e.g. a meal out, going to the cinema, a weekend break) and the app calculates for how long you need to stay off smoking to earn your reward.
  • The app gives positive feedback, even if you have an incidental lapse.
  • You are given practical tips to help you stick to it.
  • You can involve helplines (family and friends).
  • The app has a relapse prevention tool. This helps you extensively assess any relapse you may suffer, which in turn helps you in future tricky situations. 

Stoptober

  • Gives stop-smoking support for 28 days.
  • Measures how long you have managed not to smoke.
  • Shows how much money you have saved.
  • Provides tips on how to stick to it.
  • You can share your results.
  • Membership of the Facebook community of people who have stopped smoking. 

Quit Smoking Buddy

Quit Smoking Buddy was developed by an ex-smoker and is based on his own expectations of what an app should provide. The app sends you regular overviews:

  • Of the number of days, hours and minutes you have not smoked.
  • Of health objectives you have reached and achievements you have made
  • The app gives you tips on how to stick to not smoking and how you can avoid starting smoking again.

  • The number of cigarettes you have not smoked.
  • How much money you have saved.
  • How much healthier you are.

The app gives you tips on how to stick to not smoking and how you can avoid starting smoking again. Besides this, there is an active community where you can share your progress and receive support from others.


Rookvrij Pro

Rookvrij Pro gives you an overview of:

  • The number of days you have not smoked.
  • The number of cigarettes you have not smoked. 
  • How much money you have saved.
  • The environmental, health and economic damage smoking causes.

The app gives you tips on how to stick to not smoking and how you can avoid starting smoking again. Besides this, there is an active community where you can share your progress and receive support from others.
