The first point of contact in getting healthcare in the Netherlands is to register with a doctor/general practitioner (GP) (huisarts).
Select and register with a family doctor as soon as possible. Except in the event of an accident or emergency, you will need a referral letter from your GP in order to consult a medical specialist.
Your family doctor/GP is the first point of contact for non-urgent care for both children and adults.
