Crashworthiness of Aeronautical and Automotive Structures

Crashworthiness has been highly improved in recent years both in the aeronautical and automotive field. New structural concepts combined with new materials are explored numerically and experimentally, as they are needed to be implemented to absorb energy for the protection of the passengers in the future transport configurations. Indeed, the safety has to be guaranteed for the under-development electric and hybrid cars and aircrafts, and the requirements can be different from the traditional vehicles. Impact on water and ditching are also investigated, taking into account fluid-structure interactions, as new standards will probably be issued in the near future for aeronautical structures on this regard.
