Smart and Aeroelastic Structures

Smart and aeroelastically tailored structures may well lead the way to the next breakthrough and major technological advancements in aeronautics. Applying smart and aeroelastic structures to aerospace engineering requires a new way of thinking in terms of integration as well as multidisciplinarity and multifunctionality. The research focuses on two main targets. The first target is the development of numerical analysis, optimisation and design methodologies for smart and aeroelastic structures. The second target is smart and aeroelastic experiments to validate the developed numerical methods and to serve as proof-of-concept for innovative designs.
