Master Sustainable Air Transport

Profile II Sustainable Air Transport focuses on the understanding and development of efficient, safe, resilient, environment- and climate-friendly air transport operations. A particular focus is put on modelling, analysis, simulation, and optimisation of airline and airport operations, considering their environmental impact.

Airlines are considered in terms of their flight schedule, fleet, and network. A special attention is put on airline support actions, including aircraft maintenance operations and predictive maintenance. A large variety of airport operations is considered, with a special focus on the efficient use of the limited airport capacity and the development of (automated) decision support tools, for example, to support scheduling and efficient resource allocation under uncertainty.

The increasing availability of data and the growth of computational capabilities enable innovative artificial intelligence, machine learning, and optimisation methods that can be applied to study and optimise airport and airline operations. This profile provides a solid methodological background building on state-of-the-art modelling, simulation, and optimisation techniques from the areas of operations research and artificial intelligence.
