The private house & the collective home

In search of privacy in dwelling

This project aims to create a residential building where most of the daily and domestic life of the inhabitant is organized in the collective space of the residential building. Inhabitants share domestic facilities and services and the private domain of the individual is minimized. The ā€˜houseā€™ or ā€˜homeā€™ of a person is thus no longer delimited to the private dwelling, but extends to the collective space of the residential building.

My prior research focused on human behavior with regards to the built environment. By investigating peopleā€™s privacy behavior in relation to the residential environment and the dwelling this research created the framework that forms the basis of my design. The final design delivers the confortable, secluded and controlled environment that individuals seek in a private dwelling, while further providing the social, economic and practical advantages of collective living.
