About the AAPG

The American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) currently is the world’s largest professional geological society. Its purpose is to encourage scientific research, to provide education, to promote technology and to establish contact between professionals and students with its student chapter (SC) programme.

The student chapter Delft was established early 2008 from the Dispuut Reservoir Geology (DRG) as the first AAPG student chapter in the Netherlands. We aim to organise interesting activities on top of the university curriculum, such as regular lunch lectures by industrial and academic professionals, an annual Christmas lecture with drinks, symposia, company workshops and an annual geological excursion. Another aim is to provide better opportunities for students and (young) professionals to get to know eachother, for instance by closely cooperating with the Petroleum Geological Circle (the Dutch network of professionals and students in the field of petroleum exploration; PGK). Furthermore, in 2011 the first Delft team participated in the AAPG's Imperial Barrel Award (IBA) and every year another team is taking part in the competition. Additionally the student chapter offers members free use of her book case. Additionally the AAPG Delft Student Chapter organises a yearly excursion to Morocco.
