The world we live in today owes a lot to concrete. Most of our infrastructure, including bridges, viaducts, buildings, dams, tunnels, reservoirs is constructed in reinforced or prestressed concrete. Construction, including structural design, calculations and execution, and maintenance of these structures is covered by the field of Concrete Structures.
The Concrete Structures section is since 1918 part of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences of Delft University of Technology and deals with education and research. Today the group consists of 6 academic staff members, 3 adjunct academic staff members, 2 laboratory technicians and a large number of postdocs and PhD candidates.
