Bend and Break Concrete (5 ECTS)

This course is part of the Minor Bend and Break and is only available as a part of this Minor. For more information about the Minor Bend and Break students can check the website or contact the coordinator, dr.ir. M.C.M. Bakker. In this course students will design, build and test their own concrete beam in groups of 4 students. Lectures on concrete design and the use of SCIA Engineer will help the students to calculate the most efficient (rebar) configuration of their beam. The calculations are based on each group’s own set of material properties which follow from the testing of steel rebars and the design of their concrete mixture. Students are graded on the strength of their beam, their report of the design, calculations, tests and failure evaluation, and an individual test.

For more information on this course, see the TU Delft Study Guide.
