Tooren, M.M. van

Profile

Maaike van Tooren graduated with a BSc degree in geology from the University of Groningen and a MSc. degree in geology from the University of Utrecht. She focussed on petrology; structural geology and economic geology were minor parts. Since 1986 she works at the Delft University of Technology; first as a researcher, later on as a lecturer. Maaike was curator of the Mineralogical and Geological Museum of the Department of Geoscience & Engineering in addition to her teaching commitments from 1998 till the transference of the collection to Naturalis Biodiversity Center took place in 2014.

Maaike is a member of the Board of Examiners of the faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences.

Teaching

Maaike teaches currently subjects related to minerals and rocks: crystallography, mineralogy, optical mineralogy, petrology. And she is responsible for the geological excursion to the Ardennes and the Eifel. Classes taught over the last years include as well: general geology (parts), geology for engineers (parts), geology of ore deposits (parts), geological fieldwork France and ore microscopy.
