Highly scattering media destroy the coherency of a wavefield. Recent developments in optics suggest that an optimally designed incident wavefield allows transmitting the incident wavefield with almost no energy loss. In my PhD project I will investigate the possibilities of coherent multiple scattering for acoustic imaging.
In particular, I will conduct research on the optimum use of time-dependent acoustic signals (instead of monochromatic signals in optics). Additionally, I will investigate how to employ reflection measurements of coherent multiple scattering instead of transmission measurements as in the optics case.
Finally, I will seek to understand the link of coherent multiple scattering with Marchenko imaging.
