My travel into Sustainability

The 165th anniversary (Dutch: 33ste Lustrum) of the TU Delft in 2007 was dedicated to Sustainability and Development. One of the major activities was that ten persons from TU Delft travelled to a project that TU Delft has set up or is still active in. These persons had a critical look to the role of the engineer and how the project is situated under the local conditions. The travellers wrote reports on their journeys that form the focal point of the jubilee book. I was one of them.

I decided to visit a project in Bangladesh. The title of the project is ‘Sustainable Management of Arsenic contamination’.  The Dutch-Bangladeshi NGO Arsenic Mitigation and Research Foundation (AMRF) did run this project for several years and I travelled with them to Bangladesh. It was a very unique journey and I was eager telling people about it afterwards.
