C. (Christos) Gatidis

I have been a PhD candidate at the Department of Geoscience and Remote Sensing since January 2018, working on the small scale variability of rainfall. Before coming to Delft, I completed my B.Sc. in Mathematics and my M.Sc. in Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Ioannina (Greece) where I focused on the spatio-temporal variability of lightning activity.

Due to the heterogeneity of the rainfall field, the accurate precipitation estimation from satellites or weather radars still remains challenging. However, drop size distribution (DSD) can provide us with fundamental information about the characteristics of rainfall microstructure. The main goal of my research is to investigate how the DSD variability can affect the accuracy of precipitation estimations and ultimately to improve these estimates.
