Dr. F.R. (Fredrik) Jansson

Profile

I work on weather and climate simulations as a postdoc in the in the Ruisdael project. My background is in computational physics with my PhD in Physics from Åbo Akademi University in Finland. I enjoy do-it-yourself electronics, pattern formation, and progamming for home-made hardware projects and games.

Research

I'm a developer of the DALES model – the Dutch Atmospheric Large Eddy Simulation. DALES is a local atmospheric model which resolves convection and individual clouds.

I work on improving the model performance in a collaboration with the Netherlands eScience Center. I am interested in pattern formation processes, in improving the model performance and also its usability, and in exploring different high-performance computer systems.

I'm working in the Ruisdael Observatory,on setting up and running a high-resolution atmospheric model over the Netherlands.

I am also working on superparameterization, a method for improving the representation of clouds, convection, and turbulence in global weather models. For this project I was involved in developing a superparameterized version of the OpenIFS global atmospheric model using DALES.
