Dr. L. (Linh) Truong-Hong

Profile

Dr. Linh Truong-Hong is a Marie Curie Fellowship at Optical and Laser Remote Sensing Group, TU Delft Department of Geoscience & Remote Sensing from January 2019. Before joining TU Delft, he was respectively a post-doctoral researcher at Dublin Institute of Technology (from Nov. 2011 – Apr. 2013) and a research fellow at Urban Modelling Group, University College Dublin (May. 2013 – Oct. 2018). He involved in many project relevant to design new steel connections and processing LiDAR data for 3D object reconstruction, infrastructure assessment and urban modelling funded from Enterprise Ireland, Science Foundation Ireland and European Research Council.

Research

Currently I am working on the project BridgeScan funded by H2020 Marie Curie Action, which focussed on developing an automatic framework to reconstruct 3D models of structural components of a bridge for bridge information modelling (BrIM) and bridge assessment from laser scanning data acquired from terrestrial laser scanning or unmanned vehicle aerial with a camera and/or laser sensors. Moreover, I also interest to deploy remote sensing data (laser scanning or LiDAR and photogrammetry) for following applications:

  • Infrastructure inspection and assessment
  • Urban modelling
  • Assessment and monitoring construction
  • Scan to BIM
  • Object detection and semantic extraction

Currently, I do not coordinate any course but I am a guest lecturer and a teaching assistant for following courses:

  • CTB 3310 Surveying and Mapping (2018/19 Q3)
  • CIE 4614-18 3D Surveying of Civil and Offshore Infrastructure (2018/19 Q3)

More publications

The project “laser Scanning for Automatic bridge Assessment” called BridgeScan proposes the framework to use laser scanning to acquire 3D topographic data points of structural components of the bridge and to process data supporting to bridge assessment purpose. The project involve (1) investigate a flight path and scanning parameters to scan a bridge structure by unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) with an integrated laser scanning sensors, (2) develop automatic, robust, efficient methods to process LiDAR data to identify structural deficiencies for the bridge conditional rating and (3) develop automatic methods for reconstructing a 3D model of the bridge for the bridge assessment based finite element analysis and bridge management.
