Project description

Urban cities are continuously growing and damages due to heavy rain precipitation become more challenge. Conventionally, S-band weather radars are typically used for quantitative precipitation estimation (QPE). However, small size of urban catchments drive us to consider rainfall at street scales. In this project, an X-band weather radar will be used to obtain high spatial and temporal resolution for real-time operation. Moreover, polarimetric capabilities will be used to improve QPE, so that, the performance of flash flood urban models can be increased. The city of Rotterdam in The Netherlands, will be the city pilot to operate and test the polarimetric X-band weather radar and its impact on flash flood models at urban scales.

Motivation

I find ground remote sensing field and its application on weather phenomena very interesting
