Marlies van der Lugt
Profile
Since October 2020 Marlies is carrying out her PhD research in the Coastal Engineering group studying profile dynamics of man-made beaches in mixed-energy conditions. She currently is employed part-time (0.2 FTE) at Deltares where she works in projects modelling event-driven morphodynamics. She holds a BSc. in Physics and Mathematics from Utrecht University (2014) and a MSc. in Civil Engineering at the faculty of Hydraulic Engineering, TU Delft (2017).
Research
Marlies research is part of the EURECCA project (Effective Upgrades and Retrofits for Coastal Climate Adaptation) with the overarching aim to improve understanding of profile-shaping sediment transport processes on sheltered beaches with competing influences of tidal currents and waves. Her study includes extensive field work on the retrofit Prins Hendrikzanddijk on Texel.
