Ahmad Shakeel

Profile

Ahmad is a PhD Candidate in hydraulic engineering at TU Delft. He is investigating the rheological properties of mud sediments collected from different locations of Port of Hamburg, Germany. He is doing his experiments in the physical laboratory (FCL) of Deltares.

He completed his master's degree in Erasmus Mundus Rheology program, jointly organized by KU Leuven Belgium, University of Minho Portugal and University of Calabria Italy. He defended his master thesis on the topic of rheological characterization of polymeric gels.

Research

In ports, the nautical bottom is typically defined on the basis of density of mud. However, the rheological properties particularly the yield stress of mud sediments are more suitable parameters to use as a criterion for defining navigable fluid mud layer.

Therefore, the aim of Ahmad’s research is to investigate the rheological properties of mud sediments collected from different locations and depths of Port of Hamburg, Germany. This knowledge will provide the understanding about the dependence of rheological characteristics of mud samples on different factors such as density, organic matter content, etc. which will further be used to define the nautical bottom in Port of Hamburg, Germany.
