Marcel Zijlema

Profile

Marcel Zijlema holds a PhD degree in numerical mathematics from the Delft University of Technology. He has worked as a researcher at Rijkswaterstaat and has contributed to the numerical modelling of shallow water flows in the Dutch water systems (WAQUA/TRIWAQ software) for many years.

Currently, his main interest lies in the numerical modelling of wave transformation in coastal waters. He is the original author of the successful wave-flow model SWASH and he also co-authored SWAN, one of the most widely accepted operational model for predicting waves in coastal waters.

Research subjects

  • SWAN
  • Non-hydrostatic computing (SWASH)
  • Parallel computing
  • Unstructured grids
