Vellinga, T. (Tiedo)

Tiedo Vellinga MSc. obtained his degree in Civil Engineering (coastal engineering) at the Delft University of Technology in 1979. From 1979 till 2018 he worked for the Port of Rotterdam Authority in the field of infrastructure- and water management. He was part of the management team for the realization of the Rotterdam port expansion Maasvlakte 2 and responsible for the environmental studies, conditions and permits from 2004 till 2014.

From 2010 till 2018 professor Tiedo Vellinga occupied the chair of Ports and Waterways. During that period, he was responsible for the ports and waterways group and for the lectures on this subject.
Since 2018 he is professor emeritus and leading a research consortium on Ports of the Future with transdisciplinary research with 5 universities developing a framework for integrated and sustainable port development within the NWO Urbanising Delta’s of the World program. He is supervisor of 2 PhD students, on nautical traffic modelling and inland navigation and climate change and regularly acts as a visiting professor worldwide for capacity building programs focussing on inclusive port development and navigation with nature.
