Profile

After a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, I received my master in earthquake engineering at Iran University of Science and Technology. In 2014, I joined the group of Computational Modelling of Structures at TU Delft as a researcher. In May 2016 I was appointed as PhD candidate to further study the masonry characteristics at material level.

Research

To assess the seismic vulnerability of unreinforced masonry buildings in seismic prone regions, a complete overview of the mechanical properties at material level is required. In my research by means of a comprehensive laboratory testing program, insights into the strength, stiffness as well as post-peak softening behaviour of masonry in compression, bending and in shear are provided. In addition, an ambitious target of this research is to establish a quick and slightly-destructive in-situ testing method to characterise the mechanical properties of masonry. To this end, the suitability of core testing method in which small-diameter cores are extracted and subjected to splitting loading is investigated to address the compression and shear properties of the brick-mortar interface.
