O. (Onur) Arslan, Msc

Profile

I am a PhD candidate in the Applied Mechanics section, department 3Md, Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences. I am also a researcher in the Research Group on Earthquake Resistant Structures supervised by Prof. Ihsan Bal at Hanze Hogeschool in Groningen.

I was born and raised in Turkey. I graduated in 2011 from the department of Civil Engineering at the Anadolu University (now Eskisehir Technical University). I obtained my MSc degree in Earthquake Engineering from the Istanbul Technical University. Between 2013 and 2017 I worked at Yapi Merkezi in the project of Eurasia Tunnel and 3rd Bosporus Bridge as a production engineer.

Research

I investigate the seismic response of the most common connection details used in the traditional Dutch construction practice, and specifically in the Groningen area. My research focuses on the experimental and numerical definition of the complete hysteretic behaviour of the connection. I conducted two different experimental campaigns at the laboratories of TU Delft and Hanze UAS on cavity wall metal ties and timber-joist connections. I developed both a mechanical and numerical model for the cavity wall tie, calibrated against the experimental campaign on the cavity wall tie.
