Ir. Z. (Ziyulong) Wang


Ziyulong Wang is a native Beijinger who completed his Bachelors in School of Traffic and Transportation from Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU), China in 2018, and his MSc with cum laude in Transport and Planning from Delft University of Technology in 2020. Following that, he joined the Digital Railway Traffic Lab as a PhD candidate.  Here, he will devote himselft to optimizing the performance of ATO on railway networks. His daily supervisor is Dr. ir. Egidio Quaglietta and his promotor is Prof. dr. Rob M.P. Goverde.


Ziyulong's research is conducted together with the Dutch infrastructure manager, ProRail. He will focus on Optimizing the Performance of Automatic Train Operation on Mainline Railway Networks. This relates to the domains, such as operation research, optimal control, and machine learning. Moreover, this also links to other important systems that support Automatic Train Operation in the railway operation system, e.g. Traffic Management System and European Train Control System. The developed methodology will be applied to study the Dutch railway network and will support the decision making of ProRail.
