Modeling the heat storage and estimating evaporation of lakes and reservoirs in arid and semi-arid regions

Ali Abbasi was born in Birjand, Iran, on the 11th of December 1980. In September 2003, he got his B.Sc. in Civil Engineering-Majoring Hydraulics (Water) from Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST), Tehran, Iran as the top ranked student. In February 2006, Ali got his M.Sc. in Civil Engineering-Hydraulic Structures from Khaje Nasir-e Toosi University of Technology (KNTU), Tehran, Iran (Graduated summa cum laude). His M.Sc. thesis was on ‘Water Hammer Modeling with Finite Volume Method’ in which he Modeled the effects of length and bends of exposed penstock pipes of chained powerhouse on pressure fluctuation (Water-Hammer) due to turbine run off. In September 2006, Ali joined the faculty of engineering (civil department) at the University of Birjand as a lecturer where he continued his academic career till February 2011.

In April 2011, Ali moved to Delft where he joined the faculty of Civil Engineering and Geoscience (CiTG), Water Management Department. He investigates the heat budget and surface energy balance of small lakes and reservoirs. He focuses on the modeling the heat fluxes and evaporation estimation in small lakes and reservoirs in arid and semi-arid regions. To consider the effects of Atmospheric Boundary Layer(ABL) on the water surface, he models the air flow in the ABL over the lake considering the  sharp changes in surfaces' characteristics.
