dr. D.J. Peres (David)

David J. Peres is a post-doctoral researcher in hydrology at the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture of the University of Catania, Italy.  At the same university, he has attained his master (2009) and  doctoral degree (2013) in Hydraulic Engineering. At the TU Delft he is conducting research on landslide hydrology with T.A. Bogaard .

His main expertise is on the field of hydrology applied to the study and mitigation of water-related natural hazards, with a specific focus on rainfall-induced landslides.  In his PhD he applied mathematical models for the study of the triggering of shallow landslides for the derivation of landslide triggering thresholds useful for the early warning of landslides. During the doctoral course he has been a visiting researcher at Colorado State University.

He has also worked on the analysis of flood risk assessment in urbanized areas for the design big public infrastructures and on projects focused on the analysis of low flows and the quantification of the hydrological alteration of rivers in Sicily.  Other research interests include the analysis of droughts at the European scale and at the regional scale (Sicily), water resources management in arid climate contexts, and the development of artificial neural networks for ocean modeling. 

Computer skills include Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and MATLAB programming.  He cooperates in the teaching activities of the courses of Hydrology at University of Catania.

David J. Peres authored more than 40 articles, and participated at several international and national conferences.
