Jeffrey Davids, M.Sc.

Profile

Jeff's educational background, consulting experience, and dedication to developing human resources from diverse backgrounds demonstrate his commitment to sustainable management of the Earth's limited natural resources.  Jeff is Founder and President of SmartPhones4Water and H2oTech, a Ph.D. candidate in Civil Engineering, Water Management, with Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), a Water Resources Consultant for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (UN-FAO), and a Water Resources Engineer with Davids Engineering.

Jeff’s keenness for water resources and food production blossomed amongst the vast agricultural lands of California’s Great Central Valley and pristine streams of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.  These days, these interests continue to flourish in the rugged soils of Nepal, as he pursues his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, Water Management, with Delft University of Technology.

In addition to his research with TU Delft, Jeff is President of H2oTech and SmartPhones4Water, and a Water Resources Engineer with Davids Engineering.  Jeff is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of California and has a M.Sc. from California State University Chico in Geosciences and Hydrogeology, and a B.Sc. in General Engineering from California State University San Luis Obispo.  He has consulted for a variety water managers and suppliers (local, state, and federal) in all major irrigated regions of California, including the Imperial, San Joaquin, Sacramento, and Shasta Valleys.  Jeff also worked for five years as a lecturer at California State University, Chico in the Civil Engineering department.

Most importantly, Jeff enjoys every minute he gets with his wife, along with their two daughters, and one son.  Together they enjoy exploring new countries, reading, trekking, music, storm chasing, theater, traveling, community, and more.

Research

Jeff's interests focus on how sustainable management of water, energy, and food are supported by innovative sources of data, integrated systems thinking, modeling tools, education, social engagement, and outreach.

Educational activities

Jeff has taught fluid mechanics, introduction to water accounting and water productivity, GIS and remote sensing for water accounting, and introduction to Python for water accounting.

Projects

SmartPhones4Water (S4W) is a California based non-profit focus on leveraging the synergies between young researchers, mobile technology, and citizen science.  S4W’s project in Nepal (S4W-Nepal) was started in early 2017. This short video that tells a bit of the S4W-Nepal story.  S4W’s aim is to improve lives by strengthening our understanding and management of water.
