The mission Water Management is formulated as “Performing innovative research and (advanced) education in societal relevant themes related to the hydrological and urban water cycle. Aspects of the research are into understanding water availability and water use, as well as water quality, treatment and transport. This includes decision-making in water-related issues such as flood control, drought mitigation, water quality management and ecosystem management and to underpin the water sector with technology for providing high-quality water at acceptable costs, collection and conveyance of used urban water, and adequate treatment of polluted water to stringent criteria for discharge or reuse.
The research themes of Water Management are linked to the core applications and are connected to the overall mission. The following core application fields (themes) have been identified:
