PhD Council
CEG PhD Council
PhDs make up the largest community in the CEG faculty. In the Council we represent PhDs in the decision making processes of the faculty and share experiences amongst the PhD community. The Council consists of representatives from all seven departments of CEG who meet on a biweekly basis.
PhDs can reach us to seek advice or report complaints via the shared email PhDcouncil-CEG@tudelft.nl. Alternatively, individual members can be contacted directly by using the contact details listed in the Members section below.
Goals
- We provide clarity to PhDs about general concerns of the CEG departments or changes imposed by the CEG and TU Delft Graduate Schools.
- We communicate issues, ideas and solutions to the department and faculty boards, the faculty Graduate School, the University PhD Council and the Works Council.
- We organise activities to enhance cooperation and spread knowledge within the PhD community.

Why are you in the council?
Any PhD is without any doubt a challenging and stressful life, yet one of the most exciting journeys in our career building. That’s why it is important to find a proper channel to raise issues faced in order to find the appropriate solutions and in some cases to bring them to the managing/decision-making levels. The PhD-council serves as that channel and it’s a privilege for me to contribute to it and help find a way to make the journey pleasant and enjoyable for every PhD student. Feel free to contact me for any ideas that can help improve our common and specific journeys.

Why are you in the council?
As a civil engineer, being part of the CEG PhD Council would not only strengthen individual actions, but also collective relationships for building mutually valued results. I will strive to inspire others by giving my fellow PhD researchers tools to overcome the challenges that they face along their journey. Any concerns or suggestions will also be communicated within the PhD Council to promote improvement. I am looking forward to interactively employ constructive changes while ensuring a joyful environment.

Why are you in the council?
Pursuing a PhD is not an easy task. Apart from the fact that it challenges you intellectually, it can become an overwhelming and lonely process. Many students are studying away from their homes or they are lacking motivation. The PhD council works as a support mechanism that aims to solve all these commonalities among the PhDs. It is geared towards helping each other and I personally see it as an outlet for all the PhDs to share their concerns, fears, and complaints. That is why I wanted to be part of it.

Why are you in the council?
I believe that the goals of the PhD council are well aligned with what is needed to improve the experience of doing a PhD for everyone. Additionally, it offers the opportunity for interested people to join and get involved in helping achieve those goals. I consider myself a good listener and genuinely interested in finding ways to help where is a need. As the experience of doing a PhD is filled with challenges of many types, I am looking forward to working together with the colleagues from the council to address the ones that are relevant for the PhD community.

Why are you in the council?
Undoubtedly, a PhD is full of ups and downs, twists and turns. In what can be a particularly challenging (yet enjoyable) period, I believe it is important for PhD’s to have a peer that can help them through this period and relate to their trials and tribulations. The PhD Council acts as an excellent platform for this and myself and my colleagues on the PhD Council are determined to make the PhD experience as enjoyable as possible for everyone in the faculty.

Why are you in the council?
The journey of every PhD candidate at CiTG is without any doubt one of the most exciting ones in your life, but nevertheless full of ups and downs. That’s why it is important to be in a supportive and healthy environment, but also in an environment where issues can be voiced clearly. For this the PhD-council is the interface between the singular PhD candidates and the management of the faculty. I am happy to serve as a conduit for any problems you are facing. Besides current problems I believe, that no system ever will be perfect and thus am motivated to continuously improve the situation everyone in the faculty works in with regard to the ever changing socio-economic and socio-ecologic circumstances. Should you have any ideas or suggestions, please do not hesitate contacting me.

Why are you in the council?
Doing a PhD is generally a very enjoyable experience, we get to learn a lot, we get a lot of freedom to design our own research and the TU Delft is a very social environment. However not everybody experiences the PhD like this. By joining the PhD council I hope to improve the wellbeing of my colleagues by tackling topics such as stress, mental health and diversity & inclusion. Because everybody should be able to enjoy their PhD experience.

Doing a Ph.D. allows you to follow your passion and satisfy your curiosity, but it can also be quite challenging. The Ph.D. council acts as a bridge between students and the faculty to preserve and improve the PhD-experience at TU Delft. As a member, I aim to contribute to this cause while improving the ties within the Ph.D. community and encouraging all the PhDs to approach us with any suggestions/questions you might have.If you are looking for examples, please visit the intranet page of the PhD Council CEG.

Why are you in the council?
I believe that anything can always be improved. I am a good listener and if I see that something isn’t right I feel the need to try to change and improve it. However, during my first year as a PhD, I often realized how who complains and who can change things hardly talk together. In this sense, the PhD Council represents that missing piece I was always looking for. As a member of the PhD Council, I wish to be the voice of you all and take your complaints and suggestions to the ears of the decision-makers. I am sure that a PhD can be a wonderful journey if pursued within the right environment, let’s work together towards this.

Why are you in the council?
The PhD community at CEG is quite vast and diversified in terms of research and cultural background therefore having a council representing their voice in decision making is quite attractive to me. My main aim to join the council is to utilize my previous management experience by giving inputs related to the better coordination and interaction within the PhD community as well as communication enhancement with the faculty management. Please let us know if you have any ideas, concerns or suggestions regarding the improvement of our PhD track at the CEG faculty.
