TU Delft Solar Boat Team
Since September, the new TU Delft Solar Boat Team has started designing and building the new Solar Boat. The team consists of 26 students from 9 different faculties from the TU Delft. The drive behind this diverse team is our vision: To accelerate the transition to a more sustainable world. We want to do this by showing that you can reach a lot when you use your sustainable energy as efficient as possible. In the following video, you can get a clearer understanding of what we stand for: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6b4Mk12zmM&t=1s
By building the Solar Boat, we push the boundaries of what is possible with sustainable technologies today. This year, for example, we want to implement a 2-strut steering system. This enables us to make shorter turns with a higher speed. The struts are the connection between the boat and the wings. The wings enable the boat to lift out of the water with a certain sped. This does not only look spectacular but also increases the efficiency significantly! In 2014, our team was the first Solar Boat Team to use this technique, with the goal to minimize the drag and thus sail as efficient as possible. Since then, we are optimizing and innovating this way of sailing.
Our goal this year is to win the Overall Ranking of the Solar Sport One competition. This competition consists of multiple races like the Dutch Championship in Akkrum, the World Championship in Leeuwarden and Monaco. By winning the races, the team and our partners can show what is possible with the sustainable techniques of today.
