Formula Student Team Delft is the largest and oldest TU Delft DreamTeam. We make Formula 1 style racing cars with which we participate in the Formula Student competition. This is the largest design competition in the world with over 500 participating student teams. The competition is held at race circuits all over the world, e.g. the Silverstone Circuit in the United Kingdom and the Hockenheimring in Germany. The aim of the competition is to design a high performance car which gives students more hands-on experience in engineering and project management.
A characteristic of our race cars is that they can accelerate very quickly: from 0 to 100 km/h (or 0-60 mph) in just 2.2 seconds! This is because our cars have a higher power to weight ratio than any other modern production car. In addition, the car is pushed on the ground by its wings. This allows it to reach 2.5g when cornering with a car of only 163kg.
