D:DREAM Values & Standards

In the TU Delft | Dream Hall we all put in our best effort to stay true to the following values and standards:


Diversity

A team with a higher degree of diversity considers the same problem from different perspectives, resulting in more creative solutions. When you come into contact with other cultures and get to know different 'types' of people, you broaden your world. In this way, people discover that their prejudices are not accurate and they can learn from different points of view and opinions. Doing so positively affects the self-development of various members of the team, which also benefits them outside the workplace.

Standards Related to Diversity

  • All are welcome in the hall regardless of origin, preference, appearance, education, etc.
  • Selection in our recruitment is not based on origin, preference, appearance, etc.
  • We try to be as accessible as possible to everyone (including people with a visual impairment or a physical or mental disability).

Integrity

Acting with integrity at work means doing your job properly and meticulously, with due care to your responsibilities. Not everything can be laid down in rules. Where rules are unclear or lacking, people should use their good judgement and act according to accepted social and ethical standards. Working with integrity means being of service and working professionally, independently, reliably, and meticulously. You take responsibility for your own actions, are accountable for your behavior, and hold others accountable as well. This behavior often goes beyond abiding by official rules.

Standards Related to Integrity

  • When we are assigned a task, we take responsibility for it. To say "yes" is to commit to following through.
  • If we are unable to keep to our agreements, we communicate this in a timely manner.
  • We are open and honest in our dealings with each other.
  • We work according to the established rules of the Dream Hall: the "Dream Rules".
  • We hold each other accountable for all forms of undesirable behavior.
  • We are open to criticism, and we express criticism in a constructive way.
  • Our conduct is professional.

Respect

Respect is a sense of admiration, awe or reverence. It can be about respect for people, whether or not based on their qualities or performance, or for animals, other people's property or other matters.

Standards Related to Respect

  • We treat everyone as equals and respectfully, regardless of their background, preferences, appearance, education, etc.
  • We hold the door for others.
  • We wait our turn.
  • We clean up after ourselves.
  • If we use something, we leave it as we found it.
  • We treat other people's belongings with respect.
  • Rewarding is preferable over punishment.
  • When someone feels disrespected, we are happy to talk about it.
  • We try to avoid assumptions and talk to each other to learn to understand each other's point of view. We do our best to consider matters from the other person's perspective.
  • We treat the hall (building) with respect.
  • We report defects and/or faults, regardless of who caused them.

Engagement

Engagement means having a sense of connection to the TU Delft organization, the team you are part of and the work you do. You feel responsible and have 'heart for the organization' and knowledge of the goal to be achieved. The connection with team members and colleagues is also part of the connection with the organization.

Standards Related to Engagement

  • We greet each other in the corridors.
  • We approach others in a respectful and friendly manner.
  • We try our best to get to know others regardless of the role they play or the team of which they are a part.
  • We are respectful when we talk about the Dream Hall and TU Delft.
  • We stand up for each other.
  • We compliment each other on a job well done.
  • We all try our best to make the most of things at the Dream Hall.
  • We try to lift each other up in our work and get the best out of each other.
  • We try to empower people and where possible, allow them to do what they are good at and happy with.
  • We help each other if we get stuck in an issue.
  • When we borrow something, we return it in a better, cleaner, and more complete state.

Courage

Together, we create and maintain a safe environment in which we can discuss difficult issues and act accordingly. This also means that you must have the courage to face uncomfortable situations and deal with them responsibly, acknowledge your personal limitations and ask for help where necessary. Courage is also being brave enough to push boundaries.

  • We push boundaries.
  • We do not shy away from challenges.
  • We are happy to discuss difficult and uncomfortable issues.
  • We actively ask for feedback.
  • We admit when we have made a mistake.
  • We stand up for each other.
  • We admit when we disagree with something.

Trust

Trust is the willingness to depend on the actions of another person or group. However, trust is not only about trust in others, but also about trust in yourself. Trusting yourself makes you more confident. Know what you stand for, and what you can and want to do. Being trusted means keeping to your agreements; but there is an important stage that precedes this. You should be clear about your expectations so that both sides know whether these expectations can be met. This holds true for your team as well as your private life. Be open and honest and don't be afraid to say no if you know you will not be able to meet expectations. Inspiring trust means doing as you say and saying as you do.

Standards Related to Trust

  • We express our mutual expectations.
  • We keep to our agreements.
  • We speak up when we disagree with each other.
  • We are honest if we can't keep to our agreements and say this in a timely manner.
  • We treat other people's belongings with respect.
  • We help out where we can.
  • All our relationships are give and take.
  • We do not take things that are not ours.
  • We follow safety rules to protect each other and ourselves.
  • Our relationships within the hall are based on mutual trust.
