Registration procedure/deadlines for TU Delft students

The registration period on 1 April and 1 May starts at 13:00

Registration period for selection minors:
1 to 15 April 2019 - selection minors at TU Delft / LEI / EUR via Osiris

Registration period for non-selection minors:
1 to 31 May 2019 – non-selection minors at LEI / EUR via Osiris
1 May to 15 July 2019 – non-selection minors at TU Delft via Osiris

Registering for non-selection minors is via open registration (first come, first served basis)

TU Delft students use Osiris to register for minors from the range on offer at TU Delft, as well as the minors available to TU Delft students taught at Leiden University and Erasmus University Rotterdam.

The range of minors at TU Delft, Leiden and Erasmus comprise two types of minors: selection minors and non-selection minors. The registration period for selection minors is the same for all three universities. The deadline for registering for non-selection minors at Leiden and Erasmus is different from the deadline for registering for non-selection minors at TU Delft.

Please note: Students taking a joint degree programme must register for minors at the coordinating university (see table below).

Clinical Technology TU Delft
Life Science and Technology TU Delft
Molecular Science & Technology Leiden University
Nanobiology TU Delft

Selection minors (registration period 1 to 15 April 2019 via Osiris)

Admission criteria apply to selection minors. The list of minors on offer at TU Delft shows which minors are selection minors (available by 1 March at the latest).

After your registration in Osiris, your admission will be assessed by the minor coordinator. Specific admission criteria apply to selection minors. This may involve doing an assignment or you may be expected to have specific prior qualifications. Detailed information about admission criteria is available per minor on the website of the selection minor concerned.

The application period for selection minors runs from 1 to 15 April 2019.

You may apply for a maximum of two selection minors of 30 EC, or for a maximum of four selection minors of 15 EC. Once you have applied, you will be put on the waiting list in Osiris. Your application will be assessed by the minor coordinator after 15 April, and you will then be selected for the minor or not. You will be informed of this decision by the end of April 2019. If you are admitted, you will be registered for the minor in Osiris and assured of a place.

You can only be admitted to one 30 ECTS selection minor, unless you have applied for the 15 ECTS minors in the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, in which case you may be admitted to two selection minors.

If you have been admitted to and registered for a selection minor, you may no longer register for a non-selection minor and you will not be allowed to switch minors.

Non-selection minors (registration period 1 May to 15 July 2019 via Osiris)

You can register for non-selection minors (for which there are no admission criteria) via open registration in Osiris. This applies to all non-selection minors offered by TU Delft, Leiden and Erasmus. Osiris shows whether places are available per minor, so you can register immediately. This will assure you of a place on your chosen minor. Please note: you can only register for one non-selection minor and it is on a first come, first served basis.

The registration period for minors at Leiden and Erasmus is shorter than the registration period for non-selection minors at TU Delft. The period during which you can register for non-selection minors from the range at TU Delft runs from 1 May to 15 July 2019, whereas the period for non-selection minors at Leiden and Erasmus runs from 1 to 31 May 2019.

During the registration period, you are permitted to cancel your registration for one minor and make a new choice. This means that places may become available on minors that were previously full. Once the registration period has elapsed, you may no longer switch minors.

Please note! When registering for minors, please remember that you must do a total of 30 ECTS, unless you are a student of Clinical Technology. Students of Clinical Technology only need to do 15 ECTS. Architecture and the Built Environment offers a number of minors worth 15 ECTS. All other minors at TU Delft are worth 30 ECTS. You can do your 15 ECTS of minors by choosing electives at TU Delft, Leiden University (LEI) or Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR).

Minor not yet completed
If you do not manage to complete your minor in the academic year in which you registered, you do not need to re-register in the next academic year. Consult the minor coordinator to find out how you can complete your minor in the next academic year.

Registering for a second minor
Students who are registering for their first minor take precedence over students who have already completed a minor. You will need approval from the Board of Examiners on your degree programme to take a second minor. You should forward this approval to minors@tudelft.nl. The minor administration office will not register you for a second minor until after 1 August 2019, subject to a place being available.

Cancelling registration for a minor
Do you want to cancel your registration for a minor after the registration period? Or was your application for a free minor approved by the Board of Examiners while you were already registered for another minor? If so, please notify minors@tudelft.nl as soon as possible.

As a TU Delft student, you need to take the following steps in order to take a minor at Leiden University or Erasmus University Rotterdam:

Step 1

First check the admissions matrix for each university, and see the LEI and EUR websites for more content-related information.

Please note:

Leiden University:

  • In a number of minors the modules are not clustered as they are in the first teaching period at TU Delft. See Leiden University's e-Prospectus for this.
  • The minors in Leiden are open to students who have completed the first year; you may be asked for your Study Progress Overview (SVO)
  • Selection minors at Leiden operate a first-come first-served principle based on order of registration.

Erasmus University Rotterdam:

  • EUR only offers minors worth 15 ECTS. For filling in the remaining 15 ECTS, please go to Step 5.

Step 2

Register in Osiris to take a minor at Leiden University or Erasmus University Rotterdam. Note that different registration periods apply to selection and non-selection minors.

If you have been admitted to and registered for a selection minor, you may no longer register for a non-selection minor and you will not be allowed to switch minors.

Step 3

Ensure that you have an active Bachelor enrolment at TU Delft before 1 September 2019.

Step 4

Arrange enrolment as a guest student at the LDE university where you want to take the minor. This will give you access to the programmes, exams and student facilities of the other university. This guest enrolment is required to be able to participate in the minor.

  • For the LDE minors Responsible Innovation, Frugal Innovation and African Dynamics, you must have an active enrolment at all three LDE universities: Leiden University, TU Delft and Erasmus University Rotterdam.
  • For the LD minor Security, Safety and Justice (SSJ), you must have an active enrolment at both Leiden University and TU Delft.

I have been admitted to a minor at one of the following universities or in an LDE minor, what do I need to do (besides enrolling at my home university)?

Leiden University

You do not need to do anything. The enrolment takes place via an information exchange between the three LDE universities.

Erasmus University Rotterdam

You will receive an email requesting you to upload a passport photograph in order to complete your enrolment as a guest student at EUR. Make sure that you upload your passport photo before 1 September. You cannot be enrolled without a passport photo.

Step 5 (EUR only)

If you are going to take a minor at Erasmus University Rotterdam, you will need to make up the remaining 15 ECTS. It is not possible to take two EUR minors in the same academic year. There are limited options for taking electives at EUR alongside the minor at EUR. Consequently, we advise you to get the remaining 15 ECTS by taking electives at TU Delft. You can also take electives at other universities. You need prior permission from your own Board of Examiners to make up the remaining ECTS by taking electives. You can request this permission via the ‘Free Minor Approval Request’ form. Indicate the electives as well as the EUR minor of your choice.

Self-composed minor

This is a minor that you put together yourself from different course elements. It must be made up of a cohesive programme of courses, provided by a university programme and at third-year level. Master’s courses are not permitted.

Submit your choice at least 2 months in advance to your Board of Examiners with the Special Application Form for Free Minor / Switch Minor for that purpose.

Bridging minor

Contact the relevant contact person of the bridging minor. You can find them here under free or switching minor.
