Research

The department was established in its present form in 2010. It comprises the research groups Astrodynamics and Space Missions (AS) and Space Systems Engineering (SSE). It is responsible for 90% of all teaching and research in the field of space at the Faculty of AE. There are no comparable academic groups in Europe.

The first MSc year is mainly taken up by courses (core, profile and electives). In the last part of the first and the entire second year, you will be engaged in research that is typically embedded in ongoing research programmes of the two research groups AS and SSE.

Some research topics require you to take certain elective courses, therefore orienting for a thesis topic and consulting with potential supervisors should be done at the very beginning of your MSc programme. Several MSc thesis projects are performed in collaboration with universities, research institutes and industry.
