Janneke Michielsen wins "Woningmarktscriptieprijs"

Every year, the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations issues a prize for the best graduation thesis on the housing market. This award is set to stimulate graduation research into housing market related topics.

This year, 26 graduation theses were submitted, from which a jury of officials within the ministry selected three nominees. This selection took place on the basis of the scientific content of the thesis, originality of the selected research design and applied methods and the relevance of the researched theme. These three nominated students were allowed to present their research on November 15, 2018 during a meeting at the Ministry.

The 1st prize was finally awarded to Janneke Michielsen of the TPM faculty at TU Delft. She graduated within the Master's program CoSEM of this faculty. Her thesis  was an investigation into the alleged relationship between the phenomenon Buy-to-Let and the purchase price increase on regional housing markets in the Netherlands. This research was carried out in collaboration with the Land Registry (het Kadaster) and was supervised by Harry Boumeester as the first mentor (department OTB - Research for the Built Environment of the Faculty of Architecture). Besides this great title she also received a prize of € 2,500.00. Janneke now works as a trainee at het Kadaster.
