Profiles

In academic year 2017-2018 the Master Sustainable Energy Technologies offers a new programme. Students will obtain an overview of the Sustainable Energy field in the first quarter and choose a cluster of three profiles.

Profiles

We offer the profiles Wind, Solar, Biomass, Power, Storage and Economics.

Profile clusters

The following clusters are offered including 3 profiles each:

  • Solar systems: Solar – Power – Storage
  • Bio/solar systems: Biomass – Solar – Storage
  • Autonomous systems: Wind – Storage - Solar
  • Wind & Economic: Wind – Power – Economics
  • Solar & Economics: Solar – Power – Economics
  • Biomass & Economics: Biomass – Storage - Economics

Students work in their first year in groups on a System Integration Project designing a Sustainable Energy System for a specific situation that includes multiple renewable energy sources, energy transport, etc.

In the second year students can follow electives or do an internship. They work on their thesis project in one or a combination of the profiles of their cluster.

My own field of research is solar energy and I like to stimulate our Sustainable Energy Technology students to look for a topic of their thesis that combines their knowledge of different fields.

Student background

The Sustainable Energy Technologies Master welcomes mainly students with a Bachelor in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, and Aerospace Engineering and (Applied) Physics. Depending on your background and interests one or more clusters will be recommended to you.

The Power and Biomass profile may require some homologation for students lacking a background in power electronics or chemistry respectively. The wind profile requires a good background in mechanics and dynamics

Master Kick-Off

The programme starts with the Master Kick-Off during the first days of the academic year. The Master Kick-Off consists of lectures and social activities designed to help and guide all our freshman students in their Master’s Programme. Taking part in the Master Kick-Off is an obligatory part of the master study programme.

You need to register for the Master Kick-Off via the webpage.
