Track: Electrical Energy

Electricity is a very versatile form of energy and used in many areas within society. Many developments over the last century have made the electrical-energy system essential for almost all sectors in society. Currently about 20% of the primary energy use is based on electrical energy and this fraction is expected to increase as many sectors (like mobility, but also heating and cooling systems) are (partly) converting to using electrical energy. In the track Electrical Energy attention is paid to all aspects in the sustainable electrical-energy system: from generation of electrical energy using renewable energy from for instance photovoltaic solar energy or wind energy, to conversion and transport of electrical energy in electricity grids, and storage in batteries or using hydrogen technology. The electrical-energy system delivers this energy to consumers, like electric vehicles, that determine the design of this energy system, and therefore this track also pays attention to the demand side of the electrical-energy system.

First year: theoretical basis and integration project

The first year comprises theoretical study, assignments, and laboratory work. Students gain a broad knowledge of the sustainable energy field and choose three out of the following seven profiles: Wind Energy, Solar Energy, Waste & Combined Heat and Power, Power Engineering, Energy Storage, Electric Mobility and Economics & Society, organised in pre-defined profile clusters. During Q2-3-4, the students work in groups on an integration project, to apply the technical knowledge they have acquired in a case study under realistic conditions.

Second year: electives and graduation

The second year is devoted to electives and the graduation project, which involves participating in an advanced research or design project in an academic or industrial environment in the Netherlands or abroad.

The graduate programme of TU Delft offers Master of Science (MSc) degrees in Science and Engineering. Our professors and scientific staff are leading scientists and their leadership and expertise is reflected in the MSc programmes. We offer our students a challenging education and participation in cutting-edge research.
