In conventional aircrafts, several power systems are in operation - electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic either used independently or as a combination. However, all of them suffer from disadvantages, including the sacrifice of total engine efficiency in the process of harvesting a particular energy such as with hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Hence, an energy transition to electric with a view to reduce emissions, decrease fuel consumption and reduce emitted noise has resulted in a stepwise development of a more-electric and hybrid aircraft to an all-electric aircraft. Such a transition is expected to provide dramatic improvements in reliability, maintainability, emissions, supportability and operations/support cost as well as enhancements in efficiency, aircraft weight and volume. This symposium brings in experts in this domain to speak on this important topic with electrical drives for aircrafts powered by green energy as the main point of discussion.
