Dr. Ivan Gordon

IMEC (Leuven, Belgium) - Linkedin

Dr. Ivan Gordon obtained his PhD in the field of novel magnetic materials for sensor applications from the University of Leuven in February 2002. He started to work at IMEC in June 2003, where he is currently leading the Silicon PV group, working on c-Si wafer-based solar cells, thin-film silicon solar cells, and advanced module concepts for ultra-thin c-Si wafer-based cells. Since 2008, he is editor for the international scientific journal Solar Energy Materials and Solar Cells, for which he is editor-in-chief since January 2018 onwards. Since 2011, he is also associate editor for the IEEE Journal on Photovoltaics. He has authored and co-authored more than 220 journal and conference papers (>2800 citations, h-factor 28, January 2018). Since January 2016, he is the coordinator of the joint program on Photovoltaics of the European Energy Research Alliance (EERA) and a steering committee member of the European Technology and Innovation Platform Photovoltaics (ETIP-PV).

Prof. dr. Miro Zeman

Prof. dr. Miro Zeman received his Ph.D. degree (cum laude) from the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava in 1989 for research on amorphous silicon. In 2009 he was appointed Full professor at Delft University of Technology where he leads the PVMD group and is the head of the Electrical Sustainable Energy department. Miro Zeman is a leading expert in light management, modelling, and development and application of novel materials and nanostructures in silicon-based solar cells. He is author of more than 350 publications, has written or contributed to 5 scientific books, has 5 patent applications and his H-index is 34 (Google Scholar).

Dr. Marc Korevaar

Kipp en Zonen (Delft, the Netherlands) - Linkedin

Dr. Marc Korevaar works as a scientist in the research department at Kipp & Zonen. He attained his PhD in physics working with scintillation detectors at the Technical University Delft, and has 10 years experience in (optical) detector physics. Since 2013 he works in the field of solar radiometry at Kipp & Zonen, leading manufacturer of measurement instruments for meteorology and solar energy.

Prof. Dr. Marko Topič

University of Ljubljana (Ljubljana, Slovenia) - Linkedin

Professor Marko Topič received the D.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia in 1996. Since 2006 he has been with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Ljubljana, as a Full Professor and the Head of the Laboratory of Photovoltaics and Optoelectronics. He is also an Affiliate Faculty / Professor at the Colorado State University. Professor Topič is the Chairman of the European Technology & Innovation Platform Photovoltaics, and has been the Chairman of the Slovenian Photovoltaic Technology Platform since 2006. In the 7th Framework Programme (2008-2012) he served as a member of the Advisory Group on Energy. Since 2014 he is a member of the Slovenian Academy of Engineering. He published 2 books (CRC Press and Springer), more than 150 original scientific papers in renowned international journals, over 250 papers in international conference proceedings that received more than 2500 citations. 

Dr. Alessandra Scognamiglio

Dr. Alessandra Scognamiglio holds a Master in Architecture (University of Naples Federico II, 1998). She is a licensed architect (Naples, 1998) and has a PhD in Technologies for Architecture and Environment (Second University of Naples Luigi Vanvitelli, 2010). Since 2000 she works as researcher at ENEA (Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development | www.enea.it), Photovoltaic Systems and Smart Grids Unit. Her main interest is working on the hybrid border between scientific research and design, to create a domain of common understanding and possibilities for experimentations in the real living environment. After having worked at the architectural scale, since 2007 she investigates the topic energy-landscapes, with a special focus on photovoltaics and agricultural greenhouses. Her main fields of activity are: Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV), Photovoltaics and sensitive landscapes, Net Zero Energy Buildings and Smart Cities.

Dr. Andreas Bett

Dr. Andreas W. Bett is director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems in Freiburg, Germany. His group is well-known and active in the development of multi-junction solar cells and holds the absolute solar cell efficiency record of 46.1%. This record was achieved with a 4-junction monolithic concentrator solar cell made of III-V materials. Recently a monolithic two-terminal triple-junction solar cell with an active Silicon as bottom cell achieved another record value of 31.2% under standard one sun testing condition. Major awards include the 17th European Becquerel Prize for outstanding merits in photovoltaics, the Joseph von Fraunhofer Prize and the EARTO Prize in 2010, and in 2012 the prestigious German Environmental Prize of the DBU for the outstanding contribution to commercialise the CPV technology. He is co-founder of the companies NexWafe and Concentrix. 

Prof. Dr. Arthur Weeber

Prof. Dr. Arthur Weeber studied Physics and Chemical Engineering at the University of Amsterdam. After completing his PhD at the same university in 1988, he joined ECN. He has more than 25 years of experience in the field of PV technology and since 2015 he combines his work at ECN with a professorship in the PVMD group at Delft University of Technology.

Dr. Eszter Voroshazi

IMEC (Leuven, Belgium) - Linkedin

Eszter Voroshazi is the team leader of the PV module technology and system activities at imec. She holds an engineer title from INSA de Rennes in France (2008) and a Ph.D. from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (2012). She has in-depth expertise in PV module fabrication and reliability. She is the coordinator of national projects, and acts as WP leader in EU projects, next to this serves as expert in PV standardization committees, and reviewer to scientific funding agencies, conferences and journals.

Prof. Dr. Pavol Bauer

Prof. Dr. Pavol Bauer received his PhD degree in 1995 from Delft University of Technology. He is currently the head of DC systems, Energy conversion & Storage group of Electrical Sustainable Energy department.

Prof. Dr. Peter Palensky

Peter Palensky is the chair of intelligent electric power grids at TU Delft, Netherlands. He is active in international committees such as IEEE and is associate editor for the IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics. His main research field is complex and integrated energy systems. He teaches Energy Efficiency in the bachelors, and Intelligent Electrical Power Grids in the masters, covering grid dynamics, automation technology, and integrated energy systems. One of the main activities in his research is hybrid numerical models and how to describe and use them. Using such models, a formerly incomprehensible and complex energy system can be analyzed for efficiency, stability margins, optimality, and other expected features. With his team he works on industry and smart cities, transmission and distribution, security of supply and cyber security, hardware-in-the loop setups and number crunching for future and complex power systems.

Prof. Dr. Andy van den Dobbelsteen

Prof. Dr. Andy van den Dobbelsteen is professor of Climate Design & Sustainability - Department of Architectural Engineering + Technology. The Climate Design & Sustainability chair has close links with the technical aspect of Architecture. His research focuses on sustainable energy systems and climate adaptation, as well as design and creation of new and specific products.

Dr. Olindo Isabella

Dr. Olindo Isabella received his Ph.D. degree (cum laude) from Delft University of Technology in Delft in 2013 for his research on light management in thin-film silicon solar cells. Between 2011 and 2012 he was visiting researcher at AIST (Tsukuba, Japan) working on high performance thin-film a-SiGe:H absorber for multi-junction applications. Since February 2013 he holds a tenure track position as Assistant professor at Delft University of Technology in the PVMD group where he supervises (i) opto-electrical device modelling activities, (ii) novel concepts of light management, (iii) development of high efficiency solar cells based on crystalline silicon and thin-film silicon technologies and (iv) advanced power modelling for custom PV systems. He has contributed to 2 scientific books, has 6 patent applications and his H-index is 20 (Google Scholar).

Mr. Pouw Jongbloed

Dutch Standardization Institute (Delft, the Netherlands) - Linkedin

Mr. Jongbloed is a freelance designer and adviser/trainer at the Nederlands Normalisatie Instituu (NEN, Dutch Standardisation Institute) in Delft. He has a background in electrical engineering, electronics and mechanics with focus on practical and legislative aspects of standards. He is active member of various standards committees mainly in the electrical field, including the installation standard NEN 1010 (IEC 60364), which is related to his lecture at PVSSS 2018, and the IEC 61439 for panel construction. He is also involved in numerous national and international projects concerning large scale DC/AC and DC/DC converters, data centers, unloading bridges for coal and ore, railway, road tunnels, bridges, integration of PV generation into weak and high-performance networks, application of PV installations for power supply during "supplementary" power supply in civil engineering systems.
