Addressing the challenges of climate change requires a substantial transition at many levels of the society. Governing these transitions is not only a technical matter, but also a matter of ethical and societal considerations, many of which are often subsumed under the heading of ‘climate justice’. I this talk, I will briefly review the history of climate justice, while focusing on its current meaning for public policy. I will argue that in addition to scientific and technical uncertainties, we need to also address normative (ethical) uncertainties of climate imposed societal transitions.
