Lecture Heleen Bothof: Beyond Sustainability
23 November 2017 12:45 till 13:30 - Location: Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, Room B - By: Communication BK
Heleen Bothof (LUZ architecten) will talk about measures to revitalize, improve, restore and regenerate the biophysical environment.
‘Sustaining’ the urban environment in its current state is not enough to either assimilate or counter the effects of climate change and provide a safe and healthy living space for all. Therefor urban designers need to develop methods for understanding and assessing pressures on the environment and designing solutions to improve it. Examples of interventions in Delft Zuidoost (southeastern Delft) to reduce risks of flooding and heat stress, and increase biodiversity will be given. She also will present and discuss a recently completed research by design project for the district Buitenhof, where measures to improve environmental sustainability are related with social aspects.
This lecture is part of a series of six lectures organised by the minor Neighbourhood of the Future, Green Blue Cities.
